Road transport is a major and growing source of CO2, the principal greenhouse gas responsible for climate change. It also produces emissions that damage human health; it creates noise and congestion and causes thousands of deaths a year through road accidents.
Drivers can greatly reduce these impacts, however, by taking a few simple steps based around choosing a cleaner car, driving it more efficiently and using alternatives to the car when practical. In most cases these measures will lead to financial savings as well as environmental benefits.
The EC-funded TREATISE project ran from January 2005 to June 2007 providing free training in environmental transport for energy, environmental and fleet professionals in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Greece, Netherlands, Spain and the UK.
TREATISE also produced training manuals on Cleaner Fuels & Vehicles; Ecodriving; and Mobility Management and created a pc-based ecodriving simulator, a green fleet management tool and a to encourage people to choose less carbon-intensive modes. Although TREATISE has now finished, these manuals and pc-based tools can still be downloaded or orderd from this website.
